Stocks fell sharply Friday, ending another week of heavy losses and extreme volatility as investors brace for a global slowdown as major economies move toward lockdown in an effort to slow the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell around 927 points, or 4.6%, to close near 19,162, while the S&P 500 shed roughly 105 points, or 4.4%, to end near 2,305. The Nasdaq Composite ended near 6,879, down around 271 points, or 3.8%. For the week, the Dow dropped more than 17%, while the S&P 500 fell 15% and the Nasdaq dropped more than 12%.
