U.S. stock markets extended a tentative recovery at the open on Friday, as measures earlier in the week by the Federal Reserve and other central banks to unjam financial markets gained more traction.
Stocks were also supported by a rebound in the oil and gas sector, amid suggestions that the U.S. could either impose production quotas on domestic companies or intervene diplomatically to end the price war launched by Saudi Arabia and Russia earlier in the month.
By 9:32 AM ET (13:32 GMT), the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 174 points or 0.9% at 20,048 points. The S&P 500 was up 0.8% and the NASDAQ Composite was up 1.8%.
