U.S. stocks opened slightly lower on Monday, cooling gains after a string of record highs last week, with less than two days remaining in 2019 trade. Stock indexes, however, have been buoyed by apparent progress in trade talks between China and the U.S.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened about 13 points, 0.1%, higher, at about 28,658. The S&P 500 opened flat, hovering between positive and negative fractional readings near 3,239, and the Nasdaq was down about 7 points, 0.1%, at about 8,999.
In corporate news, shares of Myriad Genetics [s:MYGN] surged in premarket trading after the company said it had received FDA approval for a cancer diagnostic test. In economic news, the trade gap in goods fell 5.4% to $63.2 billion in November from a revised $66.8 billion in the prior month, according to advanced figures released by the government.
