U.S. stocks rose after the opening bell Friday as investors remained upbeat on the progress of international trade discussions.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 170 points, or 0.6%, the S&P 500 rose about 5 points, 0.2%, and the Nasdaq rose 26 points, or 0.3%.
U.S. Steel on Thursday said it would suspend stock buybacks and slash its dividend in the face of an increasingly challenging environment. Shares tumbled more than 7% in premarket trading.
