U.S. stocks were almost unchanged around the neutral line Wednesday, shrugging off renewed concerns about international trade and monetary policy after a multi-week rally that saw benchmark indexes touch fresh highs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was about 15 points higher, less than 0.1%, at 27,706. The S&P 500 rose less than 1 point, 0.1%, at 3,091. The Nasdaq declined 7 points, or 0.1%, to 8,479.
Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell is set to testify before lawmakers twice this week, with his first appearance coming at 11 a.m. Eastern before the Joint Economic Committee.
But in published remarks ahead of his testimony to Congress, Powell said interest rates are on hold unless there is a material deterioration of the economy.
