U.S. stocks opened with gains Tuesday, building on the previous session's bounce, as investors continued to watch U.S.-China trade talks.
Equities on Monday were boosted after President Donald Trump and Chinese officials appeared to tamp down rhetoric around the trade dispute, but investors remain wary following a Friday rout that accompanied an escalation in the tariff fight.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 139 points, or 0.5%, to 26,038, while the S&P 500 was 16 points higher at 2,895, up 0.6%. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 52 points, or 0.7%, to 7,906.
