Japan's Nikkei rose on Monday as chip-related stocks followed gains in their U.S. counterparts on Friday, but weak February export data limited the market's upside.
The Nikkei share average rose 0.6 percent to 21,579.66 at the midday break. The broader Topix rose 0.4 percent to 1,609.40.
The upside was limited by concern about global demand after Ministry of Finance data showed that Japan's exports fell for a third straight month in February, due to declines in shipments of semiconductor production equipment and cars.
