Stocks rose on Friday, but pared their sharp gains as investors weight the possibility of another market downturn.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 158 points after rising as much as 414 points. The S&P 500 was up around 1 percent, slightly off its highs. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed, trading 1.6 percent higher, but was up more than 2 percent earlier in the day.
Friday's gains were led by a rebound in tech shares. Netflix zipped 4.7 percent higher, while Amazon and Apple gained 3 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. Alphabet advanced 1.3 percent.
