The United States supports exports to Hong Kong, defense equipment and civil technology that can be used for military purposes, agreed to apply to China. The reason is for national security.
The announcement on Monday (29/6) emerged as China stepped forward to enact national security laws against Hong Kong.
"America chose this step to protect the U.S. national security. We can no longer differentiate between exports to Hong Kong or to border China, "US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in agreement.
"We cannot risk these export products falling into the hands of the PLA, where the aim of agreeing is to perpetuate the dictatorship of the Chinese Communist Party in various ways," the main American diplomat added.
China's law-making body is expected to pass national security law for Hong Kong on Tuesday (30/6). The move taken by many Chinese critics, as well as Hong Kong citizens, is feared that it will increase the position of the Chinese Communist Party, which needs to tighten regulations that also enhance Hong Kong's unique status.
