Gold Holds Gain Above $1,800 as Silver Futures Advance

Gold held a two-day advance above $1,800 an ounce as investors tracked tensions between the U.S. and China, progress in developing a coronavirus vaccine, and the mixed outlook for the global economy. Silver futures neared $20 an ounce.

President Donald Trump ordered an end to Hong Kong’s special status with the U.S., the latest escalation in tensions between the world’s largest economies. Trump also said he had no plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Spot gold steady at $1,810.22/oz as of 8:02 a.m. in Singapore after two-day advance.

Silver futures as much as +1.2% to $19.755/oz on the Comex in New York; most-active prices latest traded above $20 in Sept. 2016.

The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index was steady.
