Gold futures traded lower Thursday, slipping back under the $1,500 an ounce mark, after President Donald Trump said he plans to meet with Chinese Vice Premier Lui He on Friday as the world economic powers hold their first day of talks in Washington.D.C.
December gold on Comex was off $14, or 0.9%, to $1,498.80 an ounce, after rising 0.6% on Wednesday. Futures for gold have settled lower in three of the past four sessions, however. The December contract has traded in a range between $1,543 and $1,465 for the last four weeks.
Meanwhile, December silver lost 29 cents, or 1.7%, to reach $17.515 an ounce, following a gain of 0.6% a day ago.
