Stocks Open Lower after Jump in Coronavirus Cases

U.S. stocks opened lower on Thursday, pulling back from record levels set in the previous session, after China reported a large jump in new virus cases after it changed its methodology for measuring the outbreak.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 180 points, or 0.6%, to 29,372, while the S&P 500 was off 0.5% at 3,364. The Nasdaq Composite declined 56 points, or 0.6%, to 9,670.. Shares of electric car maker Tesla Inc. were down 2.1% after it said it was planning to offer about $2 billion of common stock in an underwritten deal.
