U.S. stocks were slightly higher Wednesday as investors hoped to keep a five-day winning streak going in the wake of a preliminary U.S.-China trade deal and fading worries over the global economic outlook.
The likely impeachment of President Trump by the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington later Wednesday held little risk for investors, analysts noted.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was about 20 points, 0.1%, higher, at late morning, near 28,287, while the S&P 500 rose about 2 points, less than 0.1%, to trade near 3,195. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up about 7 points, trading near 8,830.
The S&P 500 hit a new intraday record high at 3,198.34 before giving back early gains Wednesday.
