Stocks ended with slight gains Tuesday, scoring another round of record finishes for major stock indexes as investors keep an eye on U.S.-China trade talks and cheered results from retailers.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose around 55 points, or 0.2%, to end near 28,121, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 rose around 7 points, or 0.2%, to close around 3,140. The Nasdaq Composite advanced around 15 points, or 0.2%, to close near 8,648. Stocks maintained a small gain after President Donald Trump offered an upbeat assessment of talks with China toward a "phase one" trade agreement. Shares of electronics retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. led S&P 500 gainers with a nearly 10% gain after reporting third-quarter earnings and revenue that beat expectations.
