U.S. stocks were mostly lower at the close of trading Wednesday after news that an initial trade deal between the U.S. and China might be put off until December.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down less than a point, less than 0.1%, near 27,492. The S&P 500 added a little more than 2 points, 0.1%, to close near 3,076.72. The Nasdaq was down 24 points, 0.3%, to touch 8,410.6.
Shares of WW International Inc., the company formerly known as Weight Watchers, slid after disappointing quarterly results.
