Stocks finished higher Monday, ending the month and third quarter on a positive note as shares of Apple Inc. led gains for technology shares.
Trump administration officials played down or dismissed reports from Friday that the White House was weighing plans to block U.S. investment in Chinese companies, which had led to a weak tone at the end of last week.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose around 97 points, or 0.4%, to finish near 26,917, according to preliminary figures, while the S&P 500 gained 0.5% to end near 2,977. The Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.8% to close around 7,999.
Apple led Dow gainers with a 2.4% rise to $223.97 after J.P. Morgan raised its price target to $265 a share. The Dow and S&P 500 each legged quarterly gains of 1.2%, according to FactSet data, while the Nasdaq Composite saw a 0.1% fall.
