U.S. stocks opened slightly higher on Thursday as investors appeared to take a break from worries around U.S.-China trade ties and the deterioration of global growth.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1% to 3,788. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 40 points, or 0.2%, to around 25,170. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.3% to around 7,572.
An update of first-quarter GDP data affirmed the U.S. economy had shown strong momentum in the first three months of the year.
Trade uncertainty still occupied investors' concerns after Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui accused the U.S. of engaging in "naked economic terrorism" through its use of tariffs and trade sanctions. In company news, shares of Uber Technologies Inc. will draw attention as the ride-hailing company is set to report quarterly earnings for the first time since its public offering.
