U.S. stocks climbed on Monday, though off session highs, as investors cheered reports that a Sino-American trade deal was moving closer, with the two sides in the final stages of an agreement.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 47 points, or 0.2%, to 26,072, while the S&P 500 index gained 9 points, or 0.3%, to 2,813. The Nasdaq Composite gained 33 points, or 0.4%, to 7,628. All three indexes added on from gains last week.
At their peaks Monday morning, the Dow Jones had risen 130 points, the S&P was up 13 points, and the Nasdaq Composite Index had climbed 48 points.
