Stocks opened higher Tuesday morning, with the S&P 500 on pace for a fifth straight gain, ahead of the President Donald Trump's State of the Union address due in the evening.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 123 points, or 0.5%, at 25,365, the S&P 500 index gained 0.3% at 2.733, led by technology and consumer-discretionary shares, while the Nasdaq Composite Index advanced 0.5% at 7,381.
Although investors appeared to express disappointment with quarterly results from Google-parent Alphabet Inc. overall the mood around corporate results has been mostly upbeat.
Looking ahead, Wall Street is awaiting for further earnings reports from the likes Walt Disney Co. and Snap Inc. due after the market close.
