The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell on Thursday as equities took a breather following a sharp rally in the previous session. Declines in Microsoft and DowDuPont also pressured the index.
The 30-stock index fell 113 points as Microsoft and DowDuPont lagged. The S&P 500 posted slight gains, however, trading just above the flatline. The Nasdaq Composite outperformed, gaining 0.4 percent on strong Facebook earnings.
The indexes were on pace to end the month with strong gains. The S&P 500 is up about 7 percent this month and is on track to post its biggest January gain since 1989.
