U.S. stocks rose midday Friday, as investors shook off downbeat results from Intel Corp. and focused on a broadly positive picture painted by earnings season so far.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 220 points, or 0.9%, to 24,771, while the S&P 500 rose 24 points, or 0.9%, to 2,665. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 78 points, or 1.1%, to 7,151.

Optimism over what’s been a largely upbeat earnings season so far looked set to keep driving stocks higher, allowing investors to look past the growing problems over a partial government shutdown and global growth worries.
