Dow Falls 150 Points, Extending Worst Start to December Since 1980

U.S. stocks traded lower late Monday morning, after the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell into correction territory last week, and the three main benchmarks marked their worst start to December trading since 1980, amid fears of slowing global growth and an aggressive Federal Reserve.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 129 points, or 0.5%, at 23,982, the S&P 500 fell 8.6 points, or 1.1%, at 2,590, and the Nasdaq Composite Index retreated 14 points to 6,896, a drop of 0.2%.

All three benchmarks were off their Monday-morning lows, with the Dow falling as much as 315 points, the S&P at one point losing 32 points, and the Nasdaq trading down 102 points at its lowest levels.
