Stocks opened modestly higher on Thursday to kick-start November on a positive note after a withering October.
The S&P 500 opened higher by 0.2% to 2,718. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 111 points, or 0.5%, to 25,228. The Nasdaq Composite opened higher by 0.4% to 7,334. If the S&P ends higher on Thursday, it would extend the equity benchmark's winning streak to three sessions, the longest such run in six weeks. Investors are also looking forward to Apple Inc.'s third-quarter earnings after Thursday's closing bell. A strong showing from the iPhone maker could buoy the Nasdaq whose steep fall has come on the back of weakness for large-cap tech stocks.
