U.S. equity markets closed sharply higher on Tuesday as the main indexes bounced back from the worst selloff in more than two years.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 566.84 points, or 2.3%, to 24.912.77, recovering half of the steep losses booked on Monday. The S&P 500 index rose 46.22 points, or 1.7% to 2,695.16, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 148.36 points, or 2.1% to 7,115.88. Among the best performers on the S&P 500 TripAdvisor Inc. soared nearly 15% on renewed takeover speculation.
